Here are some questions we have gotten over the past year. If we didn’t cover anything here, feel free to ask us in an email!
What is gluten?
Gluten is a protein found in wheat, rye, and barley. Here’s a lot more info about it.
Are oats really gluten-free?
Yes! Oats are naturally gluten-free. They are often cross contaminated in the fields, harvested with shared equipment (like a wheat harvester), or processed in a facility that also processes wheat, rye, and/or barley.
How do you know your oats are gluten-free?
Our oats are grown in clean fields. Which means they haven’t had wheat, rye, or barley grown in them for at least 4 years. Our farmers also use designated equipment to harvest the oats. And finally, the oats are processed in a facility that only works with these oats, so there is no cross contamination. Our oats test out at about 3ppm (parts per million) for gluten. The FDA recently declared that in order to be called “gluten-free” your product has to test out below 20ppm.
Did you realize you have “Wheat” right in your name? Was that planned?
We can thank Rick for that one. We all think it’s pretty funny that our last name is “Wheaton”. When we talk with people who “get it” they all think it’s pretty funny too.
